Why You Need to Rent a Cell Phone While Traveling in Japan

This article is one of the most important tips that you know before you should come to Japan. Why? You do not want a surprise vacation or business trip to Japan. The fact is – the cell phone you brought with you from your own country, is likely not to work in Japan. If you want to be on the safe side, even if you come for 2-3 days, you should rent a phone in Japan.

The reasons are technical, and I will spend a short time in one minute. But first I want to point out that the problem of mobile telephony is not confined to rural areas, away from a place in Japan. Your cell phone functionality is not guaranteed, even in places like Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

Rent a mobile phone while in Tokyo is the best way to solve this problem. Now you are probably asked … How to rent a cell phone in Japan?

Mobile phone companies have kiosks at the airport in Narita, while other companies post a phone number to your hotel. Leasing is easy and only requires a photo ID and credit card. Leasing is also a reasonable price. You can use the phones at the end of your holiday back at the airport or in the mail, the company said. The fee for the rental of mobile phones on the rent per day plus taxes.

Reasons for the main technical reasons, because the Japanese PDC system works by telephone, while based in North America and Europe, mobile systems on the GSM standard. However, it is best to your local service provider before arriving in Japan, contact to verify if, if your phone is compatible with the Japanese network.

Another possibility is a SIM card (from a Japanese supplier to rent). In this case, you can use your own phone with a phone number from Japan and lower rates.

Seismic Activity in and Around Tokyo, Japan

Greater Tokyo is the intersection of three tectonic plates (Philippine Plate, the Eurasian plate and the North American Plate) and one of the most seismically active regions of the world. This region was called the Ring of Fire. On average, an earthquake felt every day. Most, however, are negligible.

Some, however, are extremely virulent: 1 September 1923 kills, the great Kanto earthquake, more than 140,000 people and has almost 2 million people homeless. Its size was measured at 7.9 on the Richter scale. This phenomenon can be explained if the three tectonic plates of the lack of inertia, has published an excessive accumulation of energy, and once in motion, was the source of the devastating earthquake. When all three plates were colliding, which is not realistic, but possible, the energy would be released, so nothing to resist destruction.

According to the research group of Tokyo-team, a strong earthquake occurs every 400 years. It would 0th 5% chance that such a quake will occur within 30 years. It would, however, 30% chance that a less violent earthquake that will cause significant damage occurs in the same period continues. The earthquake has been the most violent in recent years, in 2005 and was a magnitude 5.9 on the Richter scale, panic but no injuries and only moderate damage.

Tokyo has the latest technological advances in the prevention of the earthquake, such as high-tech building on gigantic steel springs are based most of the seismic waves absorb, and the risk of collapse. Despite these devices, the strength of an earthquake would cause great turn seven losses, both human and material.

Tokyo, Japan – The History of Tokyo

In feudal times, the current prefecture of Tokyo is part of the province of Musashi, to be exact. After the defeat of persons who led Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1590, he, the nine provinces of the Kanto region to select the little village of Edo, which was centered around a castle built in 1457 to serve as the capital of the field.

He was Shogun Ieyasu after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 and became the de facto political center of Japan, opening, what historians call the Edo period. Even if Kyoto is still officially the capital, as the residence of the Emperor. All women and their son lived in Edo. The city quickly became a large population density, despite a major fire in 1657 which destroyed much of the city and killed almost 100,000 people.

In July 1868, after the Meiji revolution, Edo Mutsuhito Emperor chose a new residence within the city, which today in Tokyo, the capital of the East. In 1871 the Tokyo Metropolitan Group was formed, and the city that was previously divided into 15 districts, has become a metropolis.

In 1943, the city of Tokyo merged and became the Tokyo metropolitan prefecture (Tokyo-to create). The city of Tokyo is over, its districts, reorganized into 23 districts existing special and distinct communities.

The prefecture was investigated painful in the first half of the twentieth century, first in the Kanto earthquake of 1923 (142 dead and 807 missing), and it has a number of bomb attacks during the Second World War, survived (more than 100,000 dead). Much was destroyed in the city during the two disasters that require a major renovation, why, says while retaining a number of historical monuments, most of the city has developed a very modern architecture.

The 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, which resulted in the construction of numerous infrastructure (including roads and transport). Then the city a phenomenal growth during the economic boom of the 1960s in Japan (10% of the average economic growth per year), experienced in 1970 (an increase of 5%) and 1980 (4%), the town area, the largest in the world in terms of population, now far beyond the borders of the prefecture and the full adoption of the neighboring prefectures of Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba in part one.

Lumine to arrive in Ginza Seibu Bldg

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Lumine to compete with Marui in the Ginza/Yurakucho district. Brands selection will be the key issue for Lumine…

Mall Operator Lumine In Talks For Seibu Bldg In Central Tokyo

TOKYO (Nikkei)–Shopping mall operator Lumine Co. is negotiating to move into the retail space to be freed up in central Tokyo when the Seibu department store in Yurakucho vacates its site later this year, The Nikkei learned Tuesday.

The East Japan Railway Co. (9020) affiliate aims to establish a foothold in Yurakucho, a prime spot for retail. The store would be its first major shopping facility not directly connected to a JR East train station.

Since Seven & i Holdings Co. (3382) member Sogo & Seibu Co. decided in January to shutter its Seibu Yurakucho store at the end of December, the focus has been on the next prospective tenant. Aeon Co. (8267), Yamada Denki Co. (9831) and other retailers have bid for the space, but Lumine and building owner Asahi Shimbun Co. are expected to soon enter final negotiations.

Lumine is looking to take over space to be vacated by Seibu at the end of this year.

Lumine plans to open a store in the fall of 2011 that primarily sells apparel and knickknacks, aiming to attract prominent domestic and overseas brands.

Lumine currently operates 13 shopping complexes adjacent to major JR East train stations such as Shinjuku. The complexes are home to specialty shops selling apparel, shoes and other items popular with young female shoppers, contributing to Lumine’s 10 straight years of sales and profit growth through the year ended March 31, 2009. But Lumine’s sales declined in fiscal 2009 because of lackluster consumer spending.

Sogo & Seibu To Launch Zara In Suburban Stores – Friday, September 3, 2010

Well, I guess it is the only way for these local department stores to survive… but what will happen to all the existing brands that are in these stores ?

TOKYO (Nikkei)–Sogo & Seibu Co. plans to invite fast-fashion powerhouse Zara and other major specialty stores to set up shop inside of four regional and suburban department stores this fall.

The Seven & i Holdings Co. (3382) unit hopes to attract young consumers amid a continuing slump in Japan’s department store industry.

On Sept. 22, Zara will begin operations inside a Seibu store in Yokohama’s Totsuka district. With a floor space of about 750 sq. meters, this will be one of the largest shops of any kind inside a department store.

Sogo department stores in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, and in Tokushima will introduce household goods stores operated by group firm Loft Co.

And a Seibu store in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture, will invite group firms Tower Records Japan Inc. and Akachanhonpo, a baby products retailer, to set up shop.

Sogo & Seibu is moving to improve efficiency at regional and suburban stores through such steps. At the same time, it is focusing management resources on large stores in major cities.

I had no idea what to expect when I walked into this movie but it was seriously one of those ‘good feeling’ movies. In the end you can’t help but say ‘awwwwww’…..Jackie Chan was amazing as well. During the movie I was thinking..who would have been best for this part, Jackie Chan or Jet Li..and definately Jackie Chan was a great choice. Altho some parts were kind of cheesy..It’s a really fun movie to watch.
